Toolsmith Forging
Toolsmith Forging
Section titled “Toolsmith Forging”Toolsmith keeps the normal Vintage Story forging process but makes many tools modular. A Tinkered Tool uses a head, handle, and optional binding. A Smithed Tool comes out of smithing as one complete tool.
Forge and assemble
Section titled “Forge and assemble”- Forge the metal tool head at the anvil as usual.
- For a Tinkered Tool, hold the head in your main hand and a handle in your offhand. Hold right-click to join them.
- Put an optional binding in your offhand and hold right-click again to finish the tool. Better handles, treatments, grips, and bindings improve durability or handling; check their tooltips before choosing.
- Alternatively, place the head, handle, and binding on a Toolsmith Workbench, then strike the workbench with a hammer to craft.
A freshly forged sharp head still needs honing. Hold the tool in your main hand and a Whetstone in your offhand, then hold right-click. A placed Grindstone works the same way and is the better workshop option.
Reforge worn tools
Section titled “Reforge worn tools”When a metal head or Smithed Tool is low on durability, place it in the Workbench’s reforge slot and strike it with a hammer. Take the resulting workpiece to the forge and repair it using its original smithing recipe. If the original recipe produced multiple pieces, prepare the complete set before starting the reforge.
Use the in-game handbook entries Toolsmithing - The Basics, Crafting and Deconstruction Methods, Durability, Sharpness and Wear, and Secrets of the Reforge for the full rules. See Toolsmith on ModDB for current mod information.
