Farming with Art of Growing

Art of Growing turns farming into a longer crop cycle with more growth stages, crop-specific nutrients, and useful by-products. The Breeding Addon adds seven varieties: Wild, Small, Medium, Decent, Large, Hefty, and Gigantic.

Prepare farmland with a hoe, plant your seeds, and keep the field hydrated. Check the crop entry in the in-game guide for its growth stages, growing time, and required nutrient. Replenish the nutrient the crop uses when the farmland needs it, and leave space to replant after harvesting.

Harvest only mature crops. Keep some of the resulting seeds or seedlings for the next planting instead of turning the whole harvest into food.

Begin with Wild seeds and plant the best seed varieties you find. A mature crop can produce seed for the next variety, letting a well-managed field gradually move toward Gigantic crops. Higher varieties are also more valuable as food, so reserve them for meals or for expanding your best seed stock.

  • Vegetables: Keep seedling or seed items for replanting; use the rest in meals, pickling, or other food recipes.
  • Grains: Place a wet grain bundle on the ground with Shift + right-click and let it dry. Place the dry bundle again, then use a stick on it with right-click to thresh the grain from the straw.
  • Grass: Mow grass with a scythe. Mown grass dries over time; rain and snow slow the process. A hayfork helps collect larger amounts.

The in-game guide’s Crops tab is the best reference for an individual crop’s stages and the items it produces. Keep a small seed reserve, improve one or two varieties first, and expand the field once the harvest is reliable.

For animal processing, see the short Butchering subguide. Use the in-game handbook’s Butchering: Guide and Butchering: Info entries for the complete manual.

The server’s apiary system, From Golden Combs, lets bees improve nearby harvests. Keep hives in open space with flowers nearby. Hives with a Decent or Large population build pollination charges over time. When a nearby crop, berry bush, or fruit tree is broken, the hive spends a charge and boosts the drops:

  • Skep: +10%
  • Ceramic hive: +20%
  • Langstroth hive: +30%

This is a harvest-yield bonus, not a growth-speed bonus. Place a charged hive near the field, orchard, or berry patch, and use the in-game From Golden Combs handbook for hive construction and pollination details.
